Ford Motor Company first introduced the Ford Motorcraft brand in the 1950’s but with little success. Because of the poor results they dropped the Ford Motorcraft brand name when Ford purchased the Autolite trade name. When Ford was forced to sell the Autolite trade name by the U.S. Government because of anti-trust laws they reintroduced the Ford Motorcraft brand.

In 1972 Ford Motor Company launched the Ford Motorcraft parts division to provide high quality vehicle specific replacement parts and original equipment parts. This brand now replaced the Autolite brand as Ford’s official parts brand.
